John Thomas Newsome December 19, 1958 - March 8, 2004 SALEM, AL - John Thomas "Johnny" Newsome, 45, of Salem, died Monday, March 8 in Salem. The Celebration of Life service were held Wednesday, March 10 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home, Opelika, Ala. Johnny was born Dec. 19, 1958 in Russell County, Ala. He had been a resident of Salem for the past 32 years and participated with the Salem Volunteer Fire Department. Johnny was a loving son, brother and uncle who enjoyed country living. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Salem. Survivors include his parents, James and Peggy Newsome of Salem; five sisters, Tammy Buchanan (Mark) of Childersburg, Ala., Marlene Linthicum (David), Sametra Burnett (Willie Murphy), Lisa Elliott (Wade) and Jane Fields, all of Salem; a brother, Perry Pruitt (Jennifer) of Salem; nieces and nephews, Joey Hall of Childersburg, Ala., Lynn White, Kacee Pruitt, Keely Fields, Hunter Stewart, Walker Elliott and Parker Pruitt, all of Salem, and Josh Bettis of Childersburg. The family respectfully declines the gift of flowers, and suggests that memorial donations may be directed to the Salem Volunteer Fire Dept., 3111 Lee Road 145, Salem, AL 36874.
