2425. Mary Kathryn9 Gilkison (Lue Elmer8, Ruth Ann7 Allgood, Spencer6, Edward5, William4 Algood, Edward3 Allgood, William2, Edward1 Algood) was born in St. Francisville, Lawrence Co., IL November 27, 1912. Mary died January 11, 1983 in Artesia, Los Angeles Co., CA.
She married Clarence William Powell October 8, 1932 in Paris, Edgar Co., IL. Clarence was born October 7, 1912 in Detroit, Wayne Co, MI. Clarence died December 3, 2010 in Long Beach, Los Angeles Co, CA. OBIT: Long Beach on December 3, 2010, at the age of 98. Born to English parents residing in Detroit, Michigan, on October 7, 1912, Bill was raised in that city. Following grade school, he went to Cass Technical High School and then attended DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. He met and married his wife, Mary Kathryn Gilkison, at DePauw; and after his graduation in 1935, they moved back to Detroit. In 1936 Bill joined the Lamp Department of General Electric Company and worked for that company for 37 years until his retirement in 1974. During World War II he started working for a subsidiary of G.E. called Carboloy and lived in many cities after joining its sales department. Bill moved to southern California in 1970 and Long Beach in 1985. After the death of his first wife, he was married to Wilmah Kay Gorman from 1985 until her death in 1996. A very sociable person, Bill joined the Virginia Country Club, the Petroleum Club, and the Toppers Dance Group. He served as an officer in the latter two organizations, as well as on the governing board of the Versailles Condominium HOA where he lived. He is survived by his daughter, Linda Artuso of Long Beach; two grandsons, Tony Artuso of Melrose, MA, and David Artuso of Reseda, CA; and one great-granddaughter, Mary Kelton Artuso of Melrose. Visitation will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 4471 Lincoln Ave., Cypress, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 11, followed by a funeral service in Hope Chapel at 2:30 p.m.
