Nellie died August 28, 2013 in Bemidji, Beltrami Co., MN. OBIT: Nellie Schmidt Nellie Mae Schmidt ,95, of Bemidji died Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at Havenwood Care Center in Bemidji. Private Funeral Services will be at the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bemidji, MN with Pastor Kent Dudley officiating. Interment will be at the Solway Cemetery in Solway. Nellie was born November 10, 1917 in Freeborn County, Minnesota, the daughter of George and Bessie (Goodge) Gilchrist. She was raised and educated in Iowa and moved to Solway with her family when she was 21 years old. She married William Schmidt in October of 1943 in Solway and they were married for more than 64 years until his death in 2008. They farmed in the Solway area for over 60 years. They had dairy cattle and raised chickens. Neighbors would come by for a few dozen eggs, a cup of coffee and some visiting. She enjoyed flower gardening, always had a big garden and did a lot of canning. They belonged to the Solway Bible Chapel and attended the services as often as they could, and loved being with their friends there. She loved music, playing church hymns on her guitar and harmonica. She is survived by a daughter -Helen Gillstrom of Bemidji Brother- Elvin Gilchrist of Walker She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband- William and 2 brothers- Clifford and Dale Gilchrist. Casketbearers will be family.
She married William G. Schmidt October 1943. William was born October 31, 1912. William died January 8, 2008.
Nellie Mae Gilchrist and William G. Schmidt had the following child:
