He married Viola Evangline Lakey. Viola was born September 6, 1905 in Yadkin Co., NC. Viola was the daughter of Arthur Lakey and Dolly Hobson. Viola died October 21, 2001 in Yadkin Co., NC. OBIT: Mrs. Viola Lakey Plowman, 96, of 1741 Flint Hill Road died Sunday Oct. 21, 2001, at her home.
She was born in Yadkin County Sept. 6, 1905, to Arthur and Dolly Hobson Lakey.
She was a member of Enon Baptist Church.
Mrs. Plowman was preceded in death by her husband, Alonzo Lee Plowman; a son, Donald Plowman; two infant children; and two brothers, Benbow Lakey and Henry Lakey. Surviving are five daughters, EvaLee Matthews of Winter Spring, Fla., Cuba Ann Wilson of Winston-Salem, Cora Sue (Bobby) Pope of Chester, Va., Jamie (William) Slater of East Bend and Mable Styers of Yadkinville; four sons, Alonzo "Junior" Plowman of Oldtown, Jack (Kathryn) Plowman of Winston-Salem, James "Buddy" Plowman of Winston-Salem and Thurman (Mary) Plowman of East Bend; two sisters, Hazel King of Pfafftown and Margaret Harrell of Kernersville; 42 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; and 27 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2001, at the Enon Baptist Church by the Rev. Mark Elmore. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 to lie in state. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 Tuesday evening at Huff Funeral Home in East Bend.
