John died November 10, 1999 in Greenville, Greenville Co., SC. OBIT: Dr. John Archie Haley, 72, of 112 Woodland Way, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999, at the Presbyterian Home in Clinton.

He was born Sept. 11, 1927, in Atlanta, Ga., grew up in Decatur, Ga., and was the son of the late Archie and Zuela Kinnebrew Haley. He received a B.A. Degree from Emory University in Atlanta, graduated Cum Laude from Columbia Theologi cal Seminary in De catur, Ga., and received a Ph.D. from New College, University of Edi ngburgh, Scotland. He did advanced study at McCormick Seminary, University of South Florida, Interim Network Training in Ohio, Interim Pastors Workshops in Montreat, N.C., and Oxford University.

The Presbyterian Churches he served were Vidalia, Vidalia, Ga.; Westminster in Greenville; Peace Memorial, Clearwater, Fla.; Avondale, Charlotte, N.C.; as Interim in Westminster in Greenville; First Presbyterian, Raleigh, N.C.; First Presbyterian, Beaufort; First Presbyterian, Greer; John Knox in Greenville; Allison Creek, York; Bowling Green in Bowling Green, S.C.; Trinity Presbyterian in Travelers Rest; and Clover Presbyterian in Clover. He retired Dec. 31, 1992. He was honored as Pastor Emeritus, Westminster Church in Greenville.

Dr. Haley was a pioneer in the Civil Rights Movement in Greenville in the 1950's and 1960's. He was a member of the Mayor's Commission on Integration and in that capacity, counseled with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Mayor Ivan Allen of Atlanta, Ga.

He served the community and church through the Phillis Wheatley Association of Greenville; the Rotary Club of Greenville, and Foothills Presbytery, Florida Council of Churches and North Carolina Council of Churches.

Surviving are his wife, Anna DaVault Haley; a daughter and son-in-law, Grace and John M. Hamilton Jr. of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a son and daughter- in-law, John Robert Haley and Lisa Hutto-Haley of Charleston; and grandchildren, John M. Hamilton III, Matthew John Schindler, Erich Jordan Schindler, Savannah Haley Hamilton, Linne Wyman Hutto, Dylan Jenkins Haley, and Margaret Erin Haley.

John Archie Haley JR and Anna DaVault had the following children:
