William died December 18, 1986 in Henderson, Vance Co., NC.
He married Mattie Valeria Hicks. Mattie was born December 5, 1922 in Vance Co., NC. Mattie was the daughter of Leonard Moody Hicks and Mary Ella Rogers. Mattie died June 8, 2011 in Henderson, Vance Co., NC. OBIT: Mattie Hicks Harris, 88, of Henderson, died Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at a local nursing home. Born in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Leonard Moody Hicks Sr. and Ella Rogers Hicks Faulkner. She was the widow of William Lee Harris.
She was a homemaker and a member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church, where she was a former choir member.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Cokesbury United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dennis Peay. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are a daughter, Eloise H. Richardson of Townsville; two sons, William Lee Harris Jr. of Apex and Jerry Wayne Harris of Henderson; two brothers, James W. Hicks of Henderson and Clifton R. Hicks of Norlina; and three grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Eloise H. Clark, Josephine H. Williams, Dorothy H. Newsom Beck and Joyce H. Crane; and a brother, Leonard M. Hicks Jr.
William Lee Harris and Mattie Valeria Hicks had the following children:
