Elizabeth died July 7, 2014. OBIT: Mrs. Medlin was a homemaker. She was a member of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 10, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Flowers Funeral Chapel, conducted by the Rev. John W. Yount. Burial will follow in Stovall Memorial Cemetery.

Surviving are two sons, Rufus Taylor Matthews and wife Delores of Richmond, Virginia, and Eugene Newcomb Buck Matthews and wife Joyce of Henderson; a step-son, Fletcher Medlin and wife Christine of Buxton, NC; three brothers, A.T. Owen of Waldorf, Maryland, Sam Owen of Raleigh, NC and Bobby L. Stainback of Raleigh, NC; ten grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, William Thomas Matthews; a step-daughter, Christine Pearce; a step-son, Curtis Medlin; and two brothers, Bailey Thomas Owen Jr. and Claude Gooch Owen.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home of Buck and Joyce Matthews, 412 Club Pond Road, Henderson.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Jeff Matthews, Scott Sims, Brian Medlin, Kenneth Rhodes, Carl Smith, and Larry Smiley.

She married twice. She married Hubert J. Medlin. Hubert was born February 23, 1904. Hubert died April 14, 1986. She married William Taylor Matthews. William was born August 18, 1913. William died December 9,1938.

Elizabeth Owen and William Taylor Matthews had the following children:
