31462. Daniel Clyde11 Townsend (Jasemine10 Allgood, G. Elmer9, George F.8, Samuel H.7, Manley H.6, John5, Ishmael4, Edward3, William2, Edward1 Algood) was born in Evansville, Vandenburgh Co., IN May 20, 1930. Daniel died November 14, 2005 in Evansville, Vandenburgh Co., IN. OBIT: Daniel C. “Dan” Townsend, age 75, of Evansville, died at 10:40pm, Monday, November 14, 2005, at Deaconess Hospital after a short illness.
Mr. Townsend owned and operated Townsend Marathon Gas Station on Stringtown Road in the 1950’s. Dan also worked for E.K. Hocker at Hocker Power Brakes as a sales representative for ten years and later owned and operated the Civic Center Motors and Body Shop at Virginia and Main Street for many years. Dan never retired, always working to help others with their misfortunes.
Dan enjoyed going to Hardee’s, McDonalds, and Burger King on North Main Street every day with his group of friends, and also McDonalds on North Fares at 4pm, every afternoon. Dan also enjoyed going to Garvin Park and feeding the wildlife. Dan was a United States Army veteran, serving in the Korean Conflict, and a member of the VFW Post No. 1114. He was also a member of the North Side Businessmen’s Association.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. William Hardesty, Dr. David Curtis and to Wendy Mayer, RN and the entire nursing staff at Deaconess Hospital-Unit 2900, for their excellent care of Dan.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Florence (Claspell) Townsend, one son, Michael R. Townsend and his companion, Faye Davidson, of Evansville, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 1pm, Thursday, November 17, 2005, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery, where the Retired Vanderburgh Veteran’s Club will conduct full military rites.
Friends may call from 2 to 8pm today, November 16, 2005, at Boone Funeral Home, East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, where a celebration of his life will be held at 7pm with Father Ted Temple officiating.
