Garland died April 12, 2015 in :Mount Vernon, Jefferson Co., IL. OBIT: Garland LeRoy Sheff, 80, Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 9:12 P.M. Sunday, April 12, 2015 at White Oaks Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Mr. Sheff was born Sunday, December 23, 1934 in Madison County, Illinois to Leonard L. and Bertha V. (Lewis) Sheff. He married Jeannette L. Sutherland on August 11, 1955 in East Alton, Illinois and she survives.
Garland is survived by his wife: Jeannette Sheff of Mount Vernon, Illinois, 2 sons: Garland Sheff and wife Monda of Mount Vernon, Illinois and Shae Sheff and wife Ellen of Manhattan, Kansas, 2 daughters: Jewell Cutright of Westmoreland, Kansas and Geniene Webber of Manhattan, Kansas, and a brother: Leonard A. Sheff of Godfrey, Illinois. Several Grandchildren, Several Great Grandchildren, and Several Great-Great Grandchildren also survive.
His parents and one grandson: Jason Sheff preceded him in death.
Garland served our country in the United States Navy from June 13, 1952 to his retirement on May 30, 1972. He worked as a chef and also a truck driver and earned his G.E.D. later joining Submarine School, Trucking School, and Fleet Reserve. He enjoyed recruiting and truly loved cooking. He volunteered at Crossroads Community Hospital and earned the “Pleasure of Receiving Volunteer of the Year Award”. Garland also volunteered for the food pantry and had a great desire to help others. He was a member of the Baptist faith.
He married Jeannette Louise Sutherland August 11, 1955 in Alton, Madison Co., IL. Jeannette was born February 13, 1935 in Princeton, Gibson Co., IN. Jeannette was the daughter of Wayne Edward Sutherland and Hilda L. Pauley. Jeannette died September 27, 2015 in Moun Vernon, Jefferson Co., IL.
Garland Leroy Sheff and Jeannette Louise Sutherland had the following children:
